Block Spindles for Precision CNC Machines

Milwaukee MachineTool Corporation manufactures high-rigidity block spindles for CNC machines, production equipment and precision metal cutting systems. Six standard MB Series options provide a broad range of torque capacities, bearing sizes and internal configurations for OEM block spindles, new machine builds and replacement spindle applications.

As an experienced block spindle manufacturer, Milwaukee MachineTool can help match spindle size, torque, bearing arrangement, speed requirements and lubrication configuration to your machine. Contact our team to discuss a standard CNC block spindle or application-specific spindle requirements.

What Is a Block Spindle?

A block spindle uses a rectangular spindle body designed for mounting directly to a flat machine surface. The bearings are installed directly within the spindle block body, creating a rigid construction suited for precision machining. The rear of the block can accommodate a belt box or inline motor mount depending on the drive arrangement.

Compared with a cartridge-style design, replacing a block machine spindle requires removal of the complete block followed by tramming during reinstallation. Milwaukee MachineTool offers six standard MB Series block spindles, giving machine builders a range of sizes and capacities for different CNC spindle requirements.

MB275 Series

The MB275 Series is the most compact, lowest-torque option within Milwaukee MachineTool’s standard MB block spindle lineup. With a torque capacity of 135 in-lbs, the series provides a high-rigidity spindle platform where a smaller spindle size and higher available operating speeds are priorities.

MB275 Series Features

  • Torque Capacity: 135 in-lbs
  • Nose Bearings: 30 mm diameter with duplex or triplex arrangements
  • Drive Bearings: 25 mm diameter duplex arrangement
  • Bearing Options: Steel or hybrid bearings
  • Lubrication Options: Grease or air-oil lubrication depending on configuration
  • Sealing Options: Contact/labyrinth or labyrinth/labyrinth configurations
  • Speed Range: Maximum RPM varies by internal construction, bearing type, lubrication and sealing arrangement

MB35 Series

The MB35 Series steps up in size and torque capacity from the MB275 while retaining Milwaukee MachineTool’s rigid block spindle construction. Its 525 in-lb torque capacity gives OEMs and machine builders another option when greater spindle capacity is required without moving into the larger MB Series sizes.

MB35 Series Features

  • Torque Capacity: 525 in-lbs
  • Nose Bearings: 45 mm diameter with duplex or triplex arrangements
  • Drive Bearings: 35 mm diameter duplex arrangement
  • Bearing Options: Steel or hybrid bearings
  • Lubrication Options: Grease or air-oil configurations
  • Sealing Options: Contact/labyrinth or labyrinth/labyrinth arrangements
  • Speed Configurations:Available operating limits depend on bearing arrangement, preload, lubrication and bearing construction

MB40 Series

The MB40 Series provides a 1,000 in-lb torque capacity for CNC machine designs requiring increased spindle capacity. Larger nose and drive bearings expand the series beyond the MB35 while preserving the flat-mount block construction used throughout Milwaukee MachineTool’s MB spindle family.

MB40 Series Features

  • Torque Capacity: 1,000 in-lbs
  • Nose Bearings: 55 mm diameter with duplex or triplex arrangements
  • Drive Bearings: 45 mm diameter duplex arrangement
  • Bearing Options: Steel or hybrid bearings
  • Lubrication Options: Grease or air-oil lubrication
  • Sealing Configurations: Contact/labyrinth and labyrinth/labyrinth options
  • Multiple Internal Configurations: Available combinations provide different axial thrust and maximum-speed capabilities

MB40 Series Specs

MB55 Series

The MB55 Series moves into higher-capacity block spindle applications with 2,165 in-lbs of torque capacity. Its larger bearing arrangement supports machine designs requiring greater spindle capacity while maintaining the rigid rectangular housing and flat-surface mounting associated with Milwaukee MachineTool block spindles.

MB55 Series Features

  • Torque Capacity: 2,165 in-lbs
  • Nose Bearings: 70 mm diameter with duplex or triplex arrangements
  • Drive Bearings: 55 mm diameter duplex arrangement
  • Bearing Options: Steel and hybrid configurations
  • Lubrication Options: Grease and air-oil arrangements available
  • Sealing Options: Contact/labyrinth or labyrinth/labyrinth construction
  • Configurable Performance: Internal construction options provide different axial thrust and maximum-speed ratings

MB55 Series Specs

MB65 Series

The MB65 Series increases torque capacity to 4,100 in-lbs for larger CNC block spindle requirements. With 85 mm nose bearings and 70 mm drive bearings, the series provides a substantial step up in spindle size for machine builders comparing Milwaukee MachineTool’s higher-capacity MB options.

MB65 Series Features

  • Torque Capacity: 4,100 in-lbs
  • Nose Bearings: 85 mm diameter with duplex or triplex arrangements
  • Drive Bearings: 70 mm diameter duplex arrangement
  • Bearing Options: Steel or hybrid construction
  • Lubrication Options: Grease or air-oil lubrication depending on configuration
  • Sealing Options: Contact/labyrinth and labyrinth/labyrinth arrangements
  • Multiple Construction Codes: Available configurations balance axial thrust capacity, bearing preload and spindle speed requirements

MB65 Series Specs

MB80 Series

The MB80 Series is the highest-torque standard block spindle listed in Milwaukee MachineTool’s six-series lineup. Its 7,460 in-lb torque capacity and larger bearing package provide an option for machine designs requiring the greatest standard MB Series spindle capacity.

MB80 Series Features

  • Torque Capacity: 7,460 in-lbs
  • Nose Bearings: 100 mm diameter with duplex or triplex arrangements
  • Drive Bearings: 85 mm diameter duplex arrangement
  • Bearing Options: Steel and hybrid configurations
  • Lubrication Options: Grease and air-oil configurations
  • Sealing Options: Contact/labyrinth or labyrinth/labyrinth arrangements
  • Performance Configurations: Available internal arrangements provide different axial thrust and maximum RPM capabilities
